Marie Wilabay Davis

Marie Wilabay Davis of Albertville, AL passed peacefully on June 30, 2024 at the age of 90. She is survived by her son Dr. Terry Davis, daughter in law Kim, grandsons Stephen Davis and Matthew (Anusha) Davis, great-granddaughters Norah and Avi, and her sister, Donna Webb. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband of over 53 years Verlon Davis, parents John and Lilly Wilabay, sisters Gladys Cagle and Linda Lancaster. She was a native of Marshall County, growing up in and around the small, tight-knit community of Blessing. After her husband, Verlon, served in the Army, he and Marie had their son, Terry and the three lived in many towns all over the state of Alabama, as Verlon’s management skills were much sought after in the retail world. Eventually they put down roots again in Albertville. They were members of North Broad Church of Christ. Marie worked for 17 years at Marshall Medical Center where she served the community through the Admitting Department. After celebrating retirement from the hospital, Marie focused more on her favorite line of work- being a grandmother. Affectionately called “Nan” by her boys, Marie would spoil her grandsons with Christmas gifts, birthday presents, and back to school supplies. She would save all year to put smiles on her boys’ faces, even if it meant she had to make personal sacrifices. She was known for her excellent cooking and overflowing hospitality, loved by so many. In 2021, Marie moved to Huntsville to be cared for by her son and daughter-in-law where she lived out her last years near her grown grandsons and her great-granddaughters. Her grandson shares, “She was a fire cracker always ready with a funny punchline on hand - the work ethic of a warrior, tough as nails but Betty Crocker in the kitchen. The kindest, sweetest, most selfless, generous human who would also “set you straight”, if needed. What a life, and how wonderful that we all got to be right here in the same town for her last years.” Marie Davis was a devout Christian woman, with a true servant heart. She loved big and gave everything she had to those around her. Visitation will take place at 2:00PM at Albertville Memorial Chapel, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 3:00PM. Leading the service will be her grandsons, and long-time friend, Thom Scott. Pallbearers are: Matt Davis, Stephen Davis, Randy Fowler, Donnie Burleson, Tony Simmons and Gary Long. She will be buried beside her husband at Memory Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Senior Adult Ministry at North Broad Church of Christ.
