Travis "Doc" Holliday

Travis James Holliday was born in the Carlisle community on January 18, 1942 to Isaac Holliday and Estelle Hollingsworth Holliday. He grew up in the Sardis area and graduated from Sardis High School in 1960. He met and married Janice Nancy Hughes in 1961. They then began a family together and lived in Boaz. They lived together in a few locations but they built a new home together in Kilpatrick in 1969, where they still currently reside. They had three children: Ronald James Holliday, Steven Mack Holliday, and April LaShanne Holliday Scott. Travis worked many jobs in his life which included the railroad industry and the steel industry. Travis worked at Republic Steel in Gadsden for 32 years and retired in 2000 from working in the hot strip. He had a love for the outdoors, which included hunting and trapping animals for furs. He trapped bobcats, otters, beavers and more. Another loved past time he would do is to hunt in the woods for a special herb called ginseng, that he would dig up the roots and sell by the pound. It is used in many medications and worth a nice return monetarily. Travis also ventured into the business of bailing hay for the public with a close friend and family member, LaVaughn Baird. Travis loved to make a buck and would work hard to find opportunities. Another hobby he enjoyed during his younger days was participating in civil war reenactment. He also loved to metal detect old battlefields for old relics. As his children grew they married and started their own families making Travis and Janice’s family grow larger year by year. Today his daughter LaShanne is married to Stephen Van Scott. His son Steve gave Travis his first grandchild, a granddaughter Morgan Danielle Holliday and she blessed him with three great grandchildren, Tanner, Taylor, and Tatum. Morgan is married to Chris Christian. His son Ronald gave Travis his first grandson, Trevor James Holliday who blessed him with three great granddaughters: Lyla, Charlie, and AnnaJames. Trevor is married to Heather Holliday. Steve gave Travis his second grandson named Steven Taylor Holliday. Taylor blessed Travis with two great granddaughters Gracie and Emma Holliday. Taylor preceded Travis in death in 2015 and left a huge hole in the heart of the entire family, especially his parents and his big sister. Ronald gave Travis his second granddaughter Amy Lauren Holliday. She blessed Travis with two great grandchildren, Paisley and Ross. Amy is married to Richard Peek. LaShanne gave Travis his third granddaughter named Holly Justine Scott. She blessed him with a great grandson named Elijah. Holly is married to Will Cole. LaShanne gave Travis his last grandchild and fourth granddaughter named Hailey Christine Scott. She blessed him with a great grandson named Fletcher. Hailey is currently expecting a daughter they plan to name Finley, which would be his 13th great grandchild. Hailey is married to Caleb Williams. Travis will be missed by his family and friends as we all continue onward in this life until we join him on the other side. Travis was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Estelle Holliday, brother Floyd Holliday, sister Ruby Holliday, and grandson Taylor Holliday. Alan Hallmark to officiate funeral services. Pall Bearers will be grandsons and nephews: Trevor Holliday, Richard Peek, Chris Christian, Will Cole, Caleb Williams, Mark Johnson, Justin Baird, and Farris Kilpatrick. Services will be held at Albertville Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, December 8th with visitation for friends from 12:00-2:00, followed by funeral at 2:00 in the chapel.
